i'm >< with ya. My mother is a librarian too so I'll blame it on that :) I also have most of my music genre based on decade. i've actually deleted some songs because i couldn't find the cover art for it and it was driving me crazy, or i've created fake covers in photoshop for some!

Oh yes, I am also obsessive about that. And it is indispensable that each tag MUST have artwork. If a song comes on the iPod and I see no cover art, it upsets me a little. And I'm not normally OCD.

I hate tagging in iTunes. I use a very good free tagging programme called, inventively, MP3Tag. It works brilliantly.

I understand your obsession completely... which I why I refuse to do it myself. I know that if I started messing about with tags, I'd never stop... probably never leave the house again!

I share your obsession! So many hours down the drain organizing my music. I have found MediaMonkey to be great for filling in tag and artwork info for commercial records (but I suffer from the same problems you do with all my indie and other obscure tracks). I often like to listen to music from a certain decade, so I've used the "genre" slot for 60s, 70s, 80s, etc. Easily allows me to pick a decade/genre for playing.
