There Is Hope: Adrian Bourgeois
Remember Bourgeois Tagg’s “I Don’t Mind At All”? No? Behold, one of my favorite songs of all time:

Brent Bourgeois must have played lots of Beatles music to his son, Adrian, in utero. Adrian’s now a singer-songwriter as well, and his self-titled debut reeks of Beatlesque pop - really intelligent, sophisticated music that you can actually hum. From his bio:
Adrian Bourgeois believes in you. He believes that you exist somewhere out there and he even believes that you are reading this artist biography right now which is why he is writing it. Adrian Bourgeois is an old fashioned sort of artist in that the songs he writes are inspired by moss covered monuments, soldiers with umbrellas, merry-go-rounds that come to life, and reading other peoples minds. He believes that music itself as a sound and an essence cannot change the world but music that is written about love and magic, water and fiction, war and childhood, can indeed change the world…
Stylistically compared to such pop music pillars as the Beatles and the Beach Boys as well as more modern songwriters such as Elliott Smith and Rufus Wainwright, Adrian Bourgeois may be the best musical argument out there against post-modernism, making such a case by creating music that is does not alienate but instead welcomes everyone to wrap their minds around his insatiable pop melodies, intricately arranged harmonies, multiple layered productions, and thoughtfully hopeful lyrics.
See? He’s one of us. And when you listen to his music, you’ll want to be one of him.
